From May 18 to June 6, 2008, Humanity World International (HWI) hosted a four member Pennsylvania International Business Volunteers (PIBV) from the University of Pennsylvania.

Katelyn Leader, Manika Garg, Meera Ragavan and Shutong Zhang took part in the HWI Business Empowerment Project organized in collaboration with PIBV.

The training sessions were held at the Carol Karl Vocational School and the National Vocational Training Institute here in Accra.

The volunteers were very phenomenal and up to the task. Within three weeks, they were able to fulfill their mission of taking the students through the processes of establishing and managing a business. The classes were highly interactive.

Friday June 3 (2008) was the group’s last working day. In appreciation of their volunteer work, the Center Manager of NVTI, Mr. Bortey, presented each member of the team with made in Ghana goodies and certificates.

“Empowering young women with entrepreneurship skills was a mutual exchange of culture and learning. It was a rewarding experience that will forever impact my life perspectives”.

"Working with HWI was an incredibly valuable and fun experience. Not only did I build my leadership skills through teaching, I also learned so much from our students. It was amazing to be able to forge such great relationships and become immersed in the rich Ghanaian culture –  no experience will ever be quite like this".
