Jabez YeoI heard about Humanity World International (HWI) through a club at my school, Penn International Business Volunteers (PIBV). I was very excited to help HWI with its marketing and fundraising initiatives and step foot on the continent of Africa for the first time.
While preparation for the trip was tedious (I had to get a visa, pills, vaccines, bug spray, etc), it was well worth it because of the chance to do some impactful work in a country that I have never been to. Thus, I was highly motivated to step foot in Accra and I expected that my team and I would do meaningful work during the time that we were there.
Thankfully, the three weeks that we spent in Accra with HWI was a blast. HWI was willing to let us truly help them by being open and honest with us during our regular meetings. Through their willingness to collaborate, we were able to help them update the content and layout of their website (which you are viewing right now). We also helped expose them to different means of marketing so it was good to see that we could add value in many ways. I was very grateful that HWI entrusted us with such responsibility and that they were willing to listen to what we had to say as student consultants.

We spent a couple of days in different regions visiting Kakum National Park, Cape Coast Castle, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary and the Wli Watefalls. We were also able to witness a funeral ceremony; which wasn’t sombre but actually was quite festive! HWI also provided us with Ghanaian food and told us a lot about Ghanaian life and so during my time there, I really felt that I received a true sense of what Ghana was like. My time in Accra with HWI was definitely an awesome experience and I hope to be back sometime soon.
