Emma SewellEmma SewellArriving in Africa is something of a culture shock. Yet together with my friend Felicity Moorman, we quickly settled in once meeting other friendly HWI volunteers and learning the way of African life.

Volunteering at the nearby Aristoland Montissori school gave me a real insight into African culture, where music and dance shape their learning. I was working with children aged three to four and was involved in teaching them the alphabet and numbers. I found this an extremely worthwhile experience where you can make a difference to the children's lives.

The people of Ghana are so very friendly and would go out of their way to help you.

Ghana has many amazing places to see that really are very beautiful. I experienced touching a crocodile at Han's cottage, trekking through a jungle to go on a canopy walk and experiencing the most beautiful waterfall at Wli.

I feel I have learnt many things during my two week stay in Ghana. Adapting to a completely new environment where everything is a world away from home that allows you to gain confidence. I have met so many people in Ghana and have been intrigued by their different stories and way of life. I would love to volunteer in Ghana again.
