Patty WhitePatty WhiteOn Januarary 1, 2010, I flew out of Brisbane, Australia to begin a new adventure in Ghana. I had long felt I needed to be doing something more in my life so I chance upon HWI's orphanage volunteer program and immediately applied. As I am semi-retired with children and grandchildren already doing volunteer and community work in Brisbane, I have a fair idea of the importance of volunteering.

While surfing the internet, I came across HWI and all their many good works. I became very interested and applied to the organisation to be accepted as a volunteer in Ghana. To my delight I was accepted and so the journey began.

I volunteered at the New Life Orphanage and quickly grew to love the children; they were an absolute joy to work and play with. I was also privileged to be there for the opening of the orphanage school. The children are bright and it is to be hoped they are able to reach their full potential.

Paul Badasu, the Executive Director of Humanity World International, took very good care of me while in Accra - making sure everything was okay. On weekends Paul took me to some tourist spots - the Cape Coast Castle and the Kakum National Park. The tours to such places were terrific. It was great to see some of the countryside of Ghana.

I had a wonderful, fulfilling stay in Ghana and I have no hesitation recommending HWI for a great volunteering experience.
